Our members’ core competencies and expertise have evolved through a decades-long commitment to quality improvement and leadership in large scale quality improvement initiatives as contractors to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Each of our member organizations have highly-specialized expertise that has evolved to meet the needs of health care consumers, providers, and communities they serve. Members of Superior Health Quality Alliance have deep experience serving as one of three types of organizations in support of CMS – an End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network, a Hospital Association or a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO).
End Stage Renal Disease Network (ESRD)
As an ESRD Network, Midwest Kidney Network mission is to improvement the quality of care provided to people with kidney disease
- Respond to patient concerns about their care
- Help providers improve care and quality of life for dialysis and kidney transplant patients
- Maintain the patient database that supports the national kidney disease program
- Partner with other ESRD Networks, State Survey Agencies, ESRD providers, and organizations helping people with kidney disease

Hospital Associations
Illinois Health and Hospital Association, Michigan Hospital Association, Minnesota Hospital Association and Wisconsin Hospital Association work at the local, regional, state and national levels to support, sustain and accelerate quality of care and patient safety solutions by:
- Developing learning collaboratives for hospital staff and leadership
- Facilitating patient-centered care in partnership with patients and their families at the bedside, in policy-making and in governance
- Providing a wide array of data-driven initiatives and activities to improve patient safety
- Conducting customized training programs for hospital teams
- Providing technical assistance to help hospitals achieve quality measurement goals
- Establishing and implementing systems to track and monitor hospital progress in meeting quality improvement goals
- Identifying high-performing hospitals and their leaders to coach and serve as collaborators to other hospitals committed to achieving common goals
Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO)
As a QIN-QIO, most recently organized as Lake Superior QIN, MPRO, MetaStar, and Stratis Health serve as local catalysts for change that are focused on helping achieve national health care quality goals through data driven initiatives in partnership with health care providers, stakeholders, and Medicare consumers.
- Develop cross-continuum learning collaboratives and educational opportunities
- Promote local-level adoption and participation in highly-defined quality improvement initiatives that are focused on national health care goals
- Provide one-on-one and group-level technical assistance
- Develop and share best practices based on community-specific conditions and requirements
