MDS Part 3: Understanding Quality Measures and Avoiding Common Pitfalls. The Federal Quality Measures continue to be the focal point of the faculty report card on Nursing Home Compare and serve as a baseline for developing value-based payment systems for Medicare. Having a clear understanding of how QMs are captured and how to build a strong QM program is more important than ever. This webinar will help you to connect QM scores to Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans.   • Understand some common misunderstandings and pitfalls around QM accuracy and system improvements.

Speakers

Amy Franklin, RN, RAC-MT, is a curriculum development specialist for AADNS. Previously, Amy was corporate compliance director of reimbursement for Metron Integrated Health Systems, overseeing the RAI process and quality for multiple facilities. She has more than 20 years of health care service experience. She has spoken as a subject matter expert on clinical and reimbursement issues at regional and national levels. Amy is certified as an AANAC Master Teacher and ICD-10 CM/PCS trainer (AHIMA). She is a dedicated advocate for residents and passionate about quality care and service delivery.

Judi Kulus, MSN, MAT, RN, NHA, RAC-MT, DNS-CT, QCP, is the vice president of curriculum development for AANAC. As a certified Master Teacher for the RAC-CT since 2004 and a nursing home administrator since 1987, she has focused her work on supporting facilities in managing the RAI process, MDS coding and nursing system quality improvement. Her background is in nursing home quality care, cost containment, revenue accuracy, customer satisfaction, care planning, and Medicare compliance, and she maintains a comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations.
