Learn from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the latest information on preventing and treating Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE).

Objectives

  • Review common bacteria identified in nursing homes and antibiotics used to treat them
  • Describe mechanisms for antibiotic resistance to develop in bacteria including carbapenem-resistance
  • Discuss ways your laboratory can provide information about antibiotic resistance to your facility

Presenter

Nimalie Stone, MD, is the Medical Epidemiologist for Long-Term Care in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is a board-certified infectious disease physician with a research and clinical background in managing infections and antibiotic resistant pathogens in post-acute and long-term care settings. In her role at CDC, Dr. Stone works to address the needs for infection prevention programs in long-term care.
