RegisterChildhood and adult trauma are major risk factors for the most common causes of adult illness, death and disability in the United States. Individuals who have experienced trauma have significantly higher rates of depression, substance misuse and suicide. This webinar will introduce some basic concepts of trauma, and trauma informed care, with a specific emphasis on how trauma might impact the way a person presents to primary care.

Audience

Objectives

  • Examine the wide range of adverse experiences that can cause trauma reactions
  • Describe the impact of trauma on memory, emotional regulation, behavior, learning, and health
  • Identify the link between trauma and behavioral health conditions
  • Explore ways to increase sensitivity and responsiveness to people who have experienced trauma
