This webinar will provide an overview of the Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (OPEN), an initiative that seeks to transform pain management and curb opioid abuse in the state of Michigan. Based at the University of Michigan Medical School and Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, it is a five-year initiative funded by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

Audience

Multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.

Objectives

  • Introduce Michigan OPEN, a partnership between MDHHS Services and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Michigan OPEN curbs opioid dependence, misuse and abuse by targeting opioid naive surgical and dental patients prior to opioid dependence and reduces excess unused opioids in our community.
  • Share the Michigan OPEN model for creating change and disseminating best practices in opioid prescribing and disposal.
  • Understand the role of acute care opioid prescribing in the opioid epidemic and identify ways to change clinical practice.

Speaker

  • Michael Englesbe, M.D., co-director of Michigan OPEN and professor of Surgery in the Section of Transplantation Surgery at University of Michigan.
