Change is hard. Helping patients make positive changes in their health behaviors can feel like the most challenging part of healthcare. It can feel like we are doing all the work, our priorities aren’t aligned, and goals are set but never achieved. Motivational Interviewing offers an evidence-based model for effective conversations about change.

Whether you work with patients to address depression, alcohol misuse, or other behavioral health concerns, or to increase their medication adherence, make changes to their diet and exercise, quit smoking, or make other changes to their health behaviors, this workshop will arm you with an approach that has been proven effective.

In this workshop, we will explore the foundational spirit of the Motivational Interviewing approach and learn and practice the skills and techniques. Our time together will be highly participatory and will give participants an opportunity to observe and practice the skills, practical strategies, and tools in real-play and role-play situations.

This workshop will consist of a one-hour on-demand video lesson to be viewed in advance followed by one full-day workshop. The full-day workshop is offered on five dates in a variety of locations. Please register for one workshop in the location of your choice.

Audience

Physicians, nurses, and other staff who communicate with patients in clinics.

Objectives
