This session brings together regulatory expertise from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Provider Resources and Education Program (PREP) and quality improvement tools to help facilities move beyond compliance and achieve meaningful reductions in falls.
Christine Meinke of ODH PREP will provide an overview of federal and Ohio regulations, including F689 (Accidents), along with common survey citations, what surveyors look for during reviews, and how to avoid deficiencies.
Stacy Kopp of Quality Innovation Network–Quality Improvement Organization (QIN‑QIO), Superior Health Quality Alliance, will then shift the focus to prevention using a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) approach. She’ll highlight how to identify system‑level gaps—such as repeat fallers or ineffective interventions—use data to uncover patterns, strengthen root cause analysis and post‑fall processes, and implement targeted, individualized strategies that improve outcomes.
This session emphasizes that when outcomes aren’t improving, the system must change—equipping attendees to shift from reactive compliance to proactive, data-driven fall prevention.
